Amazing cakes of Pinterest

Yesterday I blogged about some of the interesting party related things that I saw on the site Pinterest.  Originally I set out to show you some of my favorite bits from various categories as it’s a big site and sometimes difficult to find those hidden gems.  I thought I would find a good cake to share with you. This was a little difficult as there were so many amazing cakes that I was left dumbstruck.  I couldn’t believe how far cakes have evolved. Cake artistry really has gone to the next level and I was genuinely dazzled at some of the stuff I saw. I could spend hours looking at cakes on pinterest.

This got me thinking back to when I was a child and the cakes we had. For me the best cake ever was a chocolate sponge role covered with chocolate icing with chocolate buttons on depicting a hedgehog. I could’ve had this every single year and I still would have thought it was amazing – love you for that mum!  In those days this was pretty amazing however now things have evolved enormously. I’m not sure if a chocolate hedgehog would cut it today with the kids in the world of wizzy cakes.

The rage now seems to have the cake themed to what the party is about. I tend to see a lots of Hello Kitty, pirate and Angry Bird cakes.  On occasions I am given a piece of cake to take home with me from one of the parties I have been entertaining at. I thank them and tell them that my girlfriend will enjoy it very much. This is a lie because I cram it in my mouth as soon as I get in the car. I understand where the term cake hole comes from now! So that’s the confession time done with  now lets see some of those awesome cakes!

I’m occasionally asked by parents what games I do in my parties and it’s always a bit of a mouth full to explain so I have wrote this for greater clarity. To begin with, none of my games are elimination based which means no one is ever ‘out’. This ensures all the children are engaged throughout and are not going to become bored which is very important to me. On to the games!

Character statues
I tell the children to dance and when the music stops to freeze and impersonate a well known character (superheroes, Disney princesses etc). I’ll pick the most creative one each time ensuring that everyone wins. If there are a lot of children, I’ll pick multiple winners each time so by the end they have all won.
Why it’s good
– The children enjoy being on their feet, if they don’t want to pretend to be a character they will usually just  freeze normally so they still feel involved. It’s  easy to understand and we can play it instantly. The children are never bored in this game and are always riveted throughout. It’s been so good over the years.
