why my kids parties are never too loud

Every now and then, a parent will mention to me that they went to a party where the music or entertainer was uncomfortably loud. I used to nod along politely not really thinking much of it. Then I experienced this recently my when a DJ was booked after me who was too loud. That experience made me realise just how important it is to strike the right balance, and it’s the reason I wanted to write this post.

So let me reassure you – I’m not a loud entertainer. I always keep the volume at a comfortable level throughout the party. I’m very aware of how noise affects children (and adults too), and I make sure the sound is just right – clear enough for everyone to hear but never overwhelming. I want everyone to enjoy themselves without needing earplugs.

My approach to volume is to take a consistent and careful approach. Early on in my career, I learned to watch the children closely. If it’s too loud, they’ll  cover their ears and that’s something I never want to see. So I adjust accordingly and always aim for enough volume for everyone to hear and enjoy, but gentle enough that nobody feels overwhelmed.

The comfort of the children is of massive importance to me. If I see a child upset (not always due to volume issues) I will stop the show and gently guide them to a grown up. The show is not about me – it’s about doing all I can to make it the best experience possible for the children and always being adaptable in my approach.

Most of the parties I’m booked for come through word of mouth and that only happens when people genuinely enjoy the experience. No one’s going to recommend an entertainer who left everyone with ringing ears. I’m proud that families feel confident passing my name on, and that’s because they know my shows are fun and comfortable for all involved.
