Why I Don’t Post on Social Media

You may have come across me on Google, clicked through to my website, then headed over to my social media and wondered why there aren’t many recent posts.

Every business has social media, right? Is he still in business?

Let me explain.

There are a few reasons why I choose not to focus on social media. The main one is that after 12 years in business, word of mouth brings me a steady stream of work. By being reliable and consistent over that time, my name gets passed around between parents. In many ways, it feels like my customers are my social media.

Another reason is this blog. Over the years, I’ve built up a lot of content here that is genuinely useful for parents thinking about booking a children’s entertainer. If I get asked the same question a few times, I will usually sit down and write a post about it. The aim is to create an ever growing resource that answers common questions and reassures parents about what to expect. Each of these posts takes time to write, often around 90 minutes, but I would rather put that effort into something helpful and long lasting.

Like most small business owners, my time is split between admin, travelling to parties, performing, and keeping the website up to date. If I can simplify things and use my time more effectively, I will. Regularly posting on social media and coming up with new ideas all takes time, and I have chosen to put that energy elsewhere.

I am also quite mindful about how much time I spend on my phone. I find social media can be a real drain, and there are far better things to be doing with that time.

That said, I am very much still here and still performing. I am always easy to get hold of and reply promptly to emails and messages. I am also in the early stages of creating a video blog for my website, not for social media, to help even more parents feel confident and reassured when booking.
