What to Expect on the Day – A Guide for Parents

I’ve put together this guide so you know what to expect on the day and to share a few helpful tips to make sure everything runs smoothly and the children have the best time possible.

Arrival & Set-Up

I’ll arrive 45 minutes before the party starts to give myself plenty of time to set up. I usually set up against the wall furthest from the entrance, and it’s best if no one is seated behind me – this keeps the magic a mystery for the children.

The only thing I require is a table and power socket.

Hall Layout

Feel free to set up the food tables wherever works best for you. Most parents choose the opposite end of the hall to where I perform, but it’s totally up to you.

  • Chairs around the edges are great for parents who like to stay and watch.
  • A separate table for presents also works well and helps keep things organised.

Decorating with Balloons

Balloons help give the party feel. You’re welcome to pin up as many as you like, but please avoid scattering them on the floor – children tend to go wild, which can lead to bumps and crashes.

A quick balloon tip:

  • Inflate balloons so they’re round like apples, not long like lightbulbs. If the bottom bulges, they’re over-inflated and will likely pop.
  • Foil balloons are fine—just make sure they’re secured, as loose ones often become footballs.

Activities & Distractions

There’s no need to put out extra activities like colouring. The show is designed to keep the children engaged throughout. Other activities can become a distraction and make it harder for me to engage the children.

Music

I’ll play background music as the children arrive, so no need to bring a sound system.

Show Start Time

I usually begin about five minutes after the scheduled start to allow for late arrivals. If everyone is on time, we can jump right in. The children will be seated on the floor—this helps keep them settled and focused during the show.

Food Break & Cake

After the first half of the show, we’ll have a food break of around 25 minutes (this is flexible).

  • We’ll sing Happy Birthday towards the end of the break. Let me know if you’d like to walk in with the cake or have it placed on a table so I know when to get the children ready to sing happy birthday
  • Don’t forget to bring something to light the candles.

Cake tip: If you’re planning to give the children cake, it’s quicker to pop slices into party bags to take home. Serving it there and then can add 10+ minutes, reducing time for games.

What to Avoid

  • Noise blowers and party poppers – these cause constant noise and tend to overwhelm the children (and the adults!). I I’ve never met a parent who put out noise blowers and didn’t regret that decision.
  • Loose balloons on the floor – see above!

Prizes & Balloons

I provide the prizes for the party games – everyone gets an Ozzy Wizzpop sticker.
If you’ve booked balloons for all, I’ll make a balloon dog for each child in their chosen colour. Please note: I don’t make balloons for toddlers due to choking hazards. If there will be a lot of toddlers attending, it’s best to skip this option to avoid disappointment.

Payment

The remaining balance is due before the show by either cash or bank transfer. If you’ve booked balloons for all, that part can be settled after the party, as the final number of children may vary.

If you have any questions or need help planning, don’t hesitate to get in touch—I’m here to help.
